Prisoner Of The Pager

Alas, woe is me! It is my time ... yes I am once again the prisoner of the pager. The evil little device that BEEPS BEEPS BEEEEEEEPS BEEEEEEEEEEEPS whenever I try to sleep or have any sort of fun whatsoever ... the thing does not even let me eat!!
I love my job, I love that I enable people to make mobile calls. But I sooooooo hate being on-call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. But it is my time ... my job mandates that I must be on-call once a month. The warden pager keeps me confined ... I will have no life or sleep at all for a week. Paging me to come in and fix hardware and software that I know is in kahootz with the pager. They all just wait for me to go on-call and then they breakdown or fail. I say let them stay broken so I can sleep, people of Southern California do not have to talk on their mobile phones all the time! Write a letter for a change!
OK so I'm being selfish and I'm whining ... I can't even have a glass of wine. I suffer so 
OK I"m all better now ... just need to bitch a little. I am ready to face my fate ... I will be a good prisoner now and do whatever my pager asks. *sigh*

pagers, mobile phones, e-mails. faxes, phone calls, promises, tasks, errands, obligations, deadlines, forums that occupy our time...
all of the above make us more stressed and fragile.
the power to mute the mobile phone, turn off the TV, the PC, the power to cool it off for a while still eludes us :(
