Recently I added to a home network 2 pc's. At network everybody can see each other as name and Ping in dos is working. The problem is that the 2 new recently installed PC cannot browse each other in share files folders. The following message appears. Guest account is activated, simple file sharing is off, permissions are read only from everyone, IP 's are static, gateway is a router's address.
\\Computer\Drive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions. Access is denied. Any help? -------------------- More than just an experience..... |

1. Disable Windows XP firewall on both computers for testing.
2. Enable full write permission on the shared folder for testing. 3. Simple file sharing is an absolute no-no. 4. Restart both computers. 5. Try to check sharing on both machines if possible. 6. Try accessing both PCs using their IP address instead of their NETBIOS names We will be waiting for feedback ![]() -------------------- |

Update on.
After following procedures to overcome possible Master Browsing issues the situation changed as follows: Please note that 1 PC is XPhomeGR and the other XPproEN. Now Pro can access the shares of home but home cannot access pro. I cannot find Simple File Sharing option in the XPhomeGR under folder option. In the Pro machine I step in to something peculiar. In some hd partitions the name under the share is followed by $ (e.g. C$, D$..e.t.c.) in every reboot the share is on without the corresponding hand icon showing. I cannot remove the $ symbol of the name. So I check all partitions sharing and remove the "transparent share" and the following message appears: "The share is made by the administrator and it will be stop if the server service is stop or if reboot". Another info the Pro machine used to run IIS for running ASP code, but now is turned off. Any clues?? ![]() -------------------- More than just an experience..... |
