Zodiac Sign: I'm a gemini!

Recently the pc reboots it self without even showing the BSOD. Applications created the reboot were EmpireEarth.exe and firefox.exe. After investigating Dr. Watsons log file the following occured

Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

and

*** ERROR: Symbol file could not be found. Defaulted to export symbols for C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll.dll -
function: ntdll!KiFastSystemCallRet

The question is what is access violation and what can cause it ?
maybe ntdll.dll is corrupted ?

I run a mem test and the results are awful seems that memory is failing under a fair period of time. It corrupts strings of data after output.
