Only two choices, here
Many Polls around here will need your answer all the way : If you feel there should be more choices though, let me know. Please explain to others why you voted in a certain way -------------------- |

OK ... I need some clairification here.
The poll responses seem to be about individuals that have in some tragic way have become brain dead and unable to do nothing more than breathe on there own. Yet the question put to the poll seems to belong to individuals that are dying and requesting that they be allowed the choice of being euthanized. Am I completeley misunderstanding this? -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

Let me be the first to answer. Euthanasia is something far bigger than a braindead person in a coma or two.
As Pam said, every single case of euthanasia is different and should be judged according to each own details. I'll start by saying i'm with euthanasia. It is my firm belief that there are cases in which continuing life is simply a matter of "pull the plug" on behalf of the suffering individual. In these cases we have few to none rights to decide unless a fair deal of time passes. The chances of a miracle recovery are nill to none, and the massive brain damage from years in coma will not characterize what will be left as "life". Other cases include people suffering from massive(75% or total) paralysis (imagine the late Steve Reeves) (sp?). In this case the patient should be given free will to continue his life or not. It is at least sadistic to force a thinking being to continue life without any sense of self-control and no means to support himself. If he wishes to go on, godspeed. If he wishes to end his torment, let him (imagine the great film Mare a Dentro). Other cases are diagnosed killer diseases with no means of recovery, such as forms of cancer, aids, ALTZHEIMER and others. Esp. for Altzheimer i have made this discussion with my father and we both agreed (and strangely too calm) to "pull the plug" should the need arise for such cases. That's all for now i guess, but you just opened Aiolos' flask Nick. There are tons of dikography about this subject nick. I expect something to reach ten or more pages. -------------------- I'm so cool that when I go to sleep sheep count me...

I agree with you completely Sab, and that makes it really hard to debate you on this point.
I do believe that Euthanasia has its place. If a person is existing with terminal suffering physically and/or mentally they should be allowed the choice of Euthanasia, it is their choice, and in the end their choice alone. The comatose are quite a bit harder, many variables to consider before "pulling of the plug". Families, friends, doctors, they bring all the emotions, the stories, the facts, and requests. All to be considered carefully before euthanasia is discussed. Very touchy subject. -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

I'm pro myself. If a person has been in a coma for years...why torture yourself...Unless we are talking like a mental coma, then I can understand practicing patients, but a brain dead patient, kept in vegatable status just breathing...That is torture. Not only for the patient, but for the family full of false hope.
Also, if someone has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and we are talking one that will cause severe pain and agony, and this is without a doubt...I say call up Dr. Kavorkian *spelt all wrong I'm sure* and end it. We give mercy to animals...why not humans? -------------------- "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains excite me."
