I'm calling it here: 2011 is the year of the cephalopod. DePaul University already brought us Octodad ("Loving father. Caring husband. Secret octopus."), and Dakko Dakko's The 2D Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character is another strong entry.
Dakko Dakko is a newly-minted indie studio based in the UK that focuses on "simple, fun videogames." Industry veteran Rhodri Broadbent -- who worked on Fable at Microsoft Game Studios and was the lead designer on Q-Games' PixelJunk series -- posted the trailer today. This is the team's first game and will be available later this spring on the PlayStation 3 and PSP Minis platform.
As far as The 2D Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character goes, it seems like the objective is to keep Rotating Octopus Character alive while collecting smaller, non-ambulatory octopuses. ROC's googly eyes and squiggly frame are totally presh, complimented nicely the smooth animation.
I for one welcome our betentacled gaming overlords. |
