This "NAS" had already many limitations in performance but especially when using RAID-0 on data reliability. The storage disc loas Linux on boot and the file systemn for the data is EXT3. To make thing worse, the II models feature dual drive system either as stripped or mirrored RAID mode. And to make things a living hell should something bad happens to the storage... part of the Linux lives in certain disc partitions, mneaning if you swap the discs provided with 2 brand new blank WD discs the system will simply NOT boot. Anyway, a lot of people complain about bricking their MBWE trying ti enable SSH access and there have been complaints about the fan noise or the heat produced in the enclosure. This is definitely NOT a Drobo but the cost per 2TB is much lower than anything else last night i lived this moment too : this might have been caused by heat in the enclosure and i noticed all data was intact but i was not allowed to access it Today i opened the case and connected each SATA HDD on a PC with a SATA cable then boot Slax Linux. The whole tutorial will be soon posted in YourForum tutorials or simply check this link : http://mybookworld.wikidot.com/forum/t-111106/if-you-just-delete-some-files Anyway, using Linux i was able to see and edit my files so i tried editing smb.conf which was not a smart move at all, i should first backj all things off the disc and then do any tricks Now part of the data appears corrupt and i am getting out as much as i can, already saved about 400 gigabytes -------------------- |
