Hey Gang,

Here is the fresh SEO. We are going to cover content, more specifically, " website content." SEO doesn't tell you about content in the form that I am about to reveal to you in many places. There are reasons for that. People simply don't want you to know what they do for the purpose of using the techniques for themselves. In this case however, it is actually a bad thing that people hide this information.

I don't want anyone to become banned or fined for spamming, which in some search engines is happening.

First off, let's look at what doesn't work. This falls into three primary sections in my experience. Here they are:

1. Illegal content - In using illegal content, you are looking for an instant " banned " notice in not only your inbox but from your isp, ( internet service provider- the company you pay to gain access to the internet ).

Along with the use of spamming emails, there are so many tactics that shouldn't be used. Here are just a few examples for you to steer clear of in your SEO work methods:

Illegal alt tagging - Using image text tags with duplicated content to enhance a website's rank wrongfully. The wrong way to use this is to load the text line with repeating statements, keywords or website addresses to get a higher search engine pull for that text during natural search.

Hidden content - This method is to use text in the same way as the alt tag above but in hidden text that is the same color as the background of the website template that it is typed on. The search engine spiders can read this text but the human eye can't. Due to modern technology changes, search engine spider configuration changes and human monitoring of top ranked sites for these features, they are worthless practices now for anything less than attracting the wrong kind of attention to your site.

Keyword satuation - The use of keywords in your website is fine, as long as they don't repeat the same keyword over and over, sounding unnatural in context.

Bad example: My mom's APPLE PIE is great for family dinners. I only use fresh apples in my mom's APPLE PIE when making her APPLE PIE.

2. Replicating content - Using replicating content to promote the appearance of more website links, feedback, posts or fake traffic is infact a huge downer on your website.

Don't use different versions of your email or username to promote your own sites, forums, blogs and such. If you properly promote your sites, you will never face the need for such tactics to ever even cross your mind. With IP address tracking at the level it is now, I would highly consider this a dangerous practice. Again, this will get not only your id cancelled but you internet access service terminated and banned as well.

Here's an example:

Fred@pollywantacraker.com, Fred1@pollywantacracker.com, Fred00-00-0000@pollywantacracker.com.

3. Duplicate websites - This is something people don't realize will kill your website rankings instantly.

If you have a supported and legit affiliate link...don't link back to the thing and don't link it to your sites if you have the ability. Most people have the misconception that " because it is a website and it gives a link back to me, that is going to help my ranking. "

WRONG!!! WRONG!!! WRONG!!!

This is very bad for your ranking and is why those guys out there that build the websites that have nothing but affiliate site banners on it aren't getting any ranking at all and make no money. To make money with these type of sites, you must manually promote them in ads, emails and the like. Doing so from a website isn't going to get you any ranking and actually gives all of your ranking energy from when the search engines spiders do crawl your site - STRAIGHT OVER TO THE SITE THAT IT FOLLOWS THROUGH THE AFFILIATE LINK!!!

That's right, people. You are giving your would-be traffic away to the main hosting site that is running that affiliate program that you are linked to due to your site being set to " follow " in your meta-tag setup of your website. Now, there are some of you that are thinking you are just top-guns because you are thinking " I'll just set it to NO-FOLLOW and that will be that. "

WRONG!!!

You have to have the meta-settings at " follow " to allow your website links and sub-pages to be read and indexed within the search engine archive. If you block this off, you will cut your site off to the world and will NEVER gain any rank due to the fact that if the spider can't follow, the spider stops coming to your site after a few updated crawls and labels you what is called a " dead-cell."

DEAD-CELL - A wevsite that is recognized as a dummy, fake, scam or duplicate content site which is immediately unregistered and no longer scheduled to be indexed. Multiple attempts to re-register said site without properly changing the required tags to " follow ", proving the content worthly position of the website will result in instant and PERMANENT banning from said search engines that see this site as a PROBLE CHILD.

Finally, there is another part to this little issue. Duplicate TEMPLATES. That's right, gang. There is a serious problem with duplicate templates. I've made mention of this one before. Do NOT use site creators, generators or builders that have a restriction or limitation on what you can customize, change, add, delete and overall edit on a potentional website theme template. I'm not saying not to use a template that has so politely been constructed for your use, enjoyment, ammusement and hopefully productive, profit-bearing success. No, no, no!

What I am warning you of, my fellow internet profiteers, is that you be sure and make your own personal mark on the template of choice so that when you have reached the point of offering your vision to the public it has fresh images, unique content that will be frequently updated often with more of the same simple pleasures that are uncommonly known to be a secret favorite of the search engines.

NOW...moving on to the lighter side of this whirling coin of that is SEO.

If you are going to use alternative text tags on your images, which I highly suggest if properly used, here are some examples of using them...

Bad: " www.momsapplepie.com "

Good: " Mom's apple pie is the best. "
======

Bad: " http://www.momsapplepie.com "

Good: " Made with fresh green apples right off the tree. "
======

Bad: " momsapplepie.com "

Good: " I love the sweet smell of pie in the winter. "

It's all about using relevant content and not the same duplicated statement over and over. This works in the text content of your website the same way to prevent keyword saturation. It is as easy as changing a new graphic one every couple of days and changing a headline color or the headline itself. Making a couple of new comments will change the content as well. It is that simple and you will make top ranking in no time and won't get punished for wrong content.

As an alternative to replicating multiple emails and usenames, why not give social networks and forums a try for getting posted feedback on your site. Make friends, contacts and network contacts within these places by posting knowledgable, real topic points and helpful replies rather than just " thanks."

Facebook.com is a huge resource for this. Get yourself started there.

Directmatches.com is a business related myspace style site. It is free and has a $10.00/month membership that is well worth it for the connections you get in the upgrade.

Finally, get into building your own website templates or get a regualr website designer. You can contact me about building one for you if you want one that is high quality but affordable in price - $35.00 and up is the norm. I recommend at least learning enough to properly customize the sites and content outlets you work from.

With that said, until next time,

Good hunting for that wild game we call content.

Back again. this time with something that is really going to be a fun read for those that want to know the meaty stuff that the internet marketing gurus of the online world state they are going to reveal but never do.

Let's take this guy, ' John ' for example.

John spends $50.00 in google adwords for ' Disney Mouser-size t-shirts ' as his keyword phrase that he is going to pay $0.05/per click-through. That is a total of 1000 clicks.

He sells 3 t-shirts in 48 hours, finishing out his 1000 clicks. That is a 3/1000 conversion ratio, meaning he got 3 sales out of 1000 potential clients.

Sounds great because he earned $60.00 in gross profit and only put in $50.00, leaving him $10.00, clean and clear, right?

Wrong. This is horrible. What he isn't thinking of is simple math that so many people miss and write off to expense of ' you have to spend money to make money ', as the old cliche' goes.

I don't know about you but the following math doesn't make me happy at all:

$10.00 -domain name
$10.00+ -web hosting
$50.00 -adwords
$10.00 -paypal service charges, ( OFF THE TOP OF YOUR PROFITS )
$10.00 -disney shirts, ( each, so if in bulk, this would be way more )
__________

$90.00 -sub total overhead, ( this is residual outbound cost due to these being things that have to be paid every month and sale. )

__________

$90.00
$60.00 -gross profit John just made from his campaign.
__________

-$30.00 - negative $30.00

People don't understand why they are in the red and in debt all of the time, not making any money with this stuff.

_________
_________

The RIGHT way:

Google is like a casino. Everyone knows that a casino has the odds in their favor to win. If there are 250 people playing in a casino with a preset allowance of payout being 1/100 to win the money spent per spin on a machine, you are going to get something to string you along out of playing overtime to keep you going for a few more spins, right?

Same thing here. You are paying your 1/1000 odds of you getting a $20.00 jackpot/sale from your $50.00 investment, just like if you'd put that money into a slot machine for those 1/100 odds of winning your $1 per spin back.

Google is the house/casino owner and you are playing their hottest slot system that is called ' adwords '. When you use adwords in this point of view, do you ever see yourself winning and coming out ahead? Of course not.

Here is what would have happened if john would have known this before spending his money the way he did, losing it forever.

John takes his $50.00 and puts it into google adwords for the keyword ' collectable disney t-shirts ', leaving himself with 1000 click-through potential clients at his rate of $0.05/click.

The difference from last time is that he is not trying to sell the t-shirts right now. Instead, he is driving ' targeted traffic ', ( people that specifically want to know about his shirts in this case ), to his website where they are asked to take a survey and get put in for a weekly drawing for this great new t-shirt he is selling for their participation.

The 48 hours is up, the 1000 clicks are maxed out and the $50.00 is burned up...however, the results are in. Let's do the math:

John has the same $90 overhead.
John has to hand out 4 t-shirts per month for free as prizes for the drawing.
John has only gotten 17 sales of the t-shirt because people collect these unique t-shirts, thanks to his new keyword choice, as they fill out the questionaire.
John has 17/1000 paid clients and 843/1000 mailing list clients, as voluntary opt-ins when submitting their opinion and their sign-up for the drawing.
John has the results of the questionaire that gives him thousands of $$$ in information from his potential clients, that are now his previously mentioned mailing list.

So...

$90 -original overhead and investment.
$40 -t-shirts for drawing prizes.
_________

$130 -new overhead money outbound.
_________

$340 -gross profit from the sales of 17 t-shirts.
$130 -overhead cost.
_________

$210 -net profit.
17 -new paying clients.
843 -new mailing list clients from your target market, ( 17 sales included).
poll -priceless research for better offers to your new clients.

By simply changing a few minor details and a major point of view, this turned out to be a much better scenario. I hope these tips are helping you to better your seo work on your site. Yes, this is a major part of seo. It is dealing with search engine resources, services, products and tactics that they don't want you to know about. This same technique can be used in Google, Yahoo or any other adwords/ppc style service.

Until the next one...

Hey gang,

Back again for round two. In this section of the tutorial, we are going to go over the simple mechanics of how search engines work and how they use the three main elements that we just went over to judge and set your final rank score.

Just to recap, the three elements are:

Keywords
Content
Links

To find out how those elements on their own work, please read the first tutorial in this forum string.

Now, let's talk about the three main search engines, being Google, Yahoo, and MSN. These three data-driven search and result display systems are the most popularly known and used, as I'm sure we all know. The thing is that everyone uses a universal ' preaching ' method of telling you what they think is right, wrong and then ' how it is ' on the topic. Here's the flat out truth, guys. There is absolutely NOT one way to operate with all of the search engines. They are unique operating systems. This is why you will get rank of #20 on Google but will be #2 on Yahoo and even #1 on MSN, all for the same keyword. The reason is because these systems are set for indexing your website for different aspects.

Sure, you can make it happen and land for #1 in each of the search engines for the same keyword. The secret is in setting your website for the best arrangement of all of the three primary elements that we've discussed so far. The most common mistake I ever hear and see in the area of SEO is that people target one of the top three engines. There is a common thread between all of the search engines. It is the unspoken element that we just don't talk about because it is the most obvious. It is the element of ' people ' that we always overlook.

The reason for this element being overlooked is because of the very statement that is running through some of your minds as you read this right now...

" Yeah...but, you can't control people. so that doesn't count. "

It's not about controlling the people. It's about ' understadning ' people and knowing what is going to come as a result of their actions. Look at it as people look at the weather. We deal with the weather by monitoring it, watching the path it takes and prepare for the counteraction, which unfortunantly wasn't done properly in the southern region of the U.S. in recent years.

In taking that perspective on how people and search engines work, it becomes clear how someone can make it look like mystical mind control over the masses, when in reality, it is simply watching where the flow of traffic is going and staying ahead of it to guide them to the desired outcome. How this works is simple. Let's look at MSN first.

MSN.com is a great search engine. If you want to get ranked with them, they use all of the elements in the following manner.

1. They process your ' keyword density ' by checking your meta-tags, title-tags and header tags, ( These tags are the reference points in the html code of your website that show the search engine spiders what your keywords/keyphrases are and what your page description for the website is, as well as gives you titles and headings of the page to specifically catalog the subpages properly within the search engine data-directory. This causes the ability for the user to search more and more effective and targeted keywords in their search. ), that rank you on now well your 'keywords ' and your ' content ' relate to the definition of the keywords you are applying to rank for with that engine.

2. They index the number of links you have and count them into two catagories. They read as either ' inbound ', ( better known as a 'backlink' ), or ' outbound ',( a link from your site linking to someone else's site).

They spiders total this up and give you a score of so many points per link, rating for more or less, depending on their relation to the content within the site and which of the two catagories they fall into within the overall scoring system.

3. They index how much movement, activity and traffic you have on your website. If you log into your website and float through the pages, that will NOT count in your favor, because the search engine will log that it comes from your ' ip address ', ( the unique id number that your computer is given to identify it for email, internet connection, etc. This works as uniquely as your own social security number ). However, if you log into your website from a seperate computer or have a friend look at your site after you update it, that counts as new positive traffic.

Because of this easiest and most webmaster friendly system, this is the EASIEST of the top three search engines to get ranked on. This also shows a major point about what I mentioned before on how the engines work together. In ranking high in other search engines, competitors will move you up in rank by simple association in the point systems.

For example, if google has you at #32 for a position and keyword, it is going to spider that connection on MSN in a search for that keyword when you are spidered by the system, which is going to move you up from #67 in MSN to a possible rank of #19 in the next ' cycle ', ( a cycle is a pre-programmed window of time between the access point of a search engine spider/bot indexing and cataloging your website into the search engine data-directory for a standard update and re-ranking process ),due to the fact that you get more credit with MSN and other select search engines because you have an ' authority link ', (which is a special link or site that is recognized as a publicly credited reference resource, like a search engine, organization, directory, reference catalog site, etc ), attached to you website.

With that said, it also proves that this method isn't the most effective value search engine result resource for your site.

Now, moving on to Yahoo. This is my personal favorite search engine because they are fair and the most powerful ranking social search engine. They are professional and sort the fake sites and garbage out of their system. This is how their system works...

1. They rank your site on keyword, content and link relation that MSN does.

2. They rank you by a social standard of your content and how active your site is but, in a different way. Instead of paying attention to how much site activity you have on the physical traffic of the site, they rank you by the activity of content within your site itself. That works by regular article posts to the site article archive, updating blog posts, new forum posts, replacing photos and graphics to new ones every few days, changing the theme of your site with the seasons and holidays.

That makes Yahoo.com different from the other search engines and is the secret to ranking with them quickly. If the content remains related to your keyword and content topic throughout the site and you make those changes regularly, this will skyrocket your rankings. This is why blogs are popular and rank so easily. All you do is change an entry from day to day and there you go, instand site overhaul. Keep in mind that Yahoo.com is what ' Overture.com ', ( the first, original search engine of what we modernly recognize and reffere to as a search engine. This is why they are the strongest and most effective. Don't let google fool you, as it is a puppy when walking with the big dog that yahoo is. Google simple worked more on a marketing edge to the public and is now more common for reasons that we will address in a moment), used to be as they moved from being one to the other.

Finally, we move on to Google, the god-father of search engines. This search engine is absolutely NOT the best search engine. It is simply the most well-known. The reason I say that is because in a head-to-head, oranges to apples competition, Yahoo is a much cleaner and more effective search system. Google doesn't filter out all of the tiny stuff that is old, bad content, etc. They have a lot of work yet to do on their system. They are going through a stage of changes over the past few years and will eventually get it right. For now, here is how they rank websites currently.

1. They check ' content density ', ( same thing as keyword density but is targeted toward strict content relation verification methods ), rather than keyword density because if you don't have everything strictly matching up to your keyword/keyphrase, you will NOT move up in ranking. This is good for the purpose of finding really high-quality content but, doesn't work in a functional method to produce the proper results for ANYONE to be able to rank. That is because their guidelines for ranking isn't clearly stated yet. On a positive note here, I do think Google will reach a level of being a great engine in the future, once all of the kinks are worked out.

2. They index and verify and credit points toward backlinks but do not accept anything for residual/reciprocal links and in most cases count them as negatives, retracting points from your ranking score for them. In my personal opinion, I don't think this is right because cutting out links, especially reciprocal links for related content isn't fair if the content is in fact relevant to each of the two sites.

Example: a tool store site linked to a home improvement site.

That is related content.

Example: a dog walking site linked to a petshop site.

These are what google counts as good refferences. Now, these are backlinks with no connection between the two sites other than one reffering customers to the other. If you rework those examples like the following, they don't count in the system as a ' good link ' for your site.

Example: a tool store site and home improvement site swap links due to content relation.

Example: a dog walking site and petshop site swap links due to content relation.

You will get the points on the ' content density ' here. The secret to ranking in this type of situation is to simply take the greater of the two discounted points so that you still get the points on your ranking score none the less. Don't get discouraged by the ' google slaps ', ( common slang term for major changes made by google developing their system having drastic and damaging effects on website stability ), It is like I previously addressed. Search engines are like the weather. You must track the coming changes and prepare for it ahead of time. Don't try to change the weather, you will only get caught up in it. Simply be prepared to survive and stand strong within the passing storm, leaving you safe and sound to continue on after it goes, just as it will carry forward in leaving you behind...without a second thought.

The final bit of advise on learning about search engines is to learn how they cycle, as I've previously mentioned. All of the systems switch this up at random. The average window is 2-5 days. They don't want the systems running backups every day so it won't be less than every two days and they don't want to risk missing any new data on the sites so it will never be more than five days max.
The average I've discovered is 3 days.

Once you get started working on your seo practices, be sure and keep your content updated at a min. of every 3 days. This will keep you in the best standing position to move up your search engine content score, which in turn, will move up your overall ranking score.

With that said, here are the three rules of successfully getting ranked and understanding how search engines function

1. Keep your site active - Build your content to be easily updated and forever changing and growing.

2. Keep your links relevant - Build your links as reciprocals and backlinks as much as you can, accepting only the ones that are related by content. You will never lose with that perspective.

3. Keep your site updated with the search engines - Submit your site every three to six months to the engines.

I hope this helps you and has been informative.

Until next time.

Hey,

In this tutorial, I'm going to keep on the point of ' how ' search engines really work. This is a very important article of information that people only think they know in most cases. I'm about to pull back the curtain and show you how the wizards out there really work this stuff to gain top rankings.

First, let's look at what the key elements are that a search engine gives points to your page ranking within the engine data directories, ( data directories are the databases on the search engine servers that store your website information that creates your statistical results ).

Here they are:

* Keywords
* Content
* Links

Now, I know you are reading this and thinking, ' that's wrong, everyone says keywords don't work anymore ', right? WRONG! They just don't work in the same way they once did. The keyword that you tag your website with is still your most important element because no matter what changes on how the keyword is used to score your ranking points within a search engine, it is still the main point of how the searching user finds you...by the keyword or keyphrase that they type in to find you within that engine database. It is the core of locating your site. Don't ever let anyone tell you different. To releave you of any doubt of this being true, simply go to your favorite search engine homepage and search for something.

Next, we have content that comes into play. Content is the first of the two power-players in controlling your search engine ranking score, ( the positive points that you collect during a search engine review of your website for rank placement on the keyword search results list ), and where you come out in the user's results page. Content is simply not just stuff on your website as people will have you believe. It is really the amount of RELEVANT material on your website in relation to your keyword and the catagory/topic that your site falls under due to that keyword.

For example, if your site is about chicken soup , putting the words ' chicken soup ' in your site text over and over isn't going to work. However, mentioning it at random, never more than 3 times is fine, as long as it is natural and serves a purpose, not just being placed there for false/abusive keyword density, ( the old method of over-using keywords by repeating them within the site text ).

The correct way to do this is by saying something like this...

' There are many various ways to make chicken soup. When my mother made her stock, she made it with fresh boiled chicken, carrots, celery and onion. I can remember it like it was yesterday, the moment she would come out of the kitchen set a bowl full with a special spoon that I loved to eat soups and stews with.

Remember that it is all about relating the content, not repeating it.

There is another way to use content as well, which is to constantly change it. By building on your content and expanding on the topic at hand, you will always come into a better ranking when the search engine spiders , ( robot prorams that look through your website and index the information for updating your records within the search engine databases to give the best description to the user that selects your listing within the search results ), index your site. The way this works is simple. You have your story content about your mom's version of chicken soup for a few days and then you update your content by replacing the story about mom's soup with...

' I just got this new recipe and great story in from...'

You place that story and rotate out the picture of mom's soup you had up there prior and post a picture of a stock pot, lid and spoon, sitting with some veggies on a counter. That is changing your content and in doing this, once the spiders re-index your website, it will have changed from your mom's story to this new one, which will update your site history as ' being active ', which gives you points from the search engines.

A prime example of this is this very forum. Everytime someone makes a post, the spiders come along and re-index that eventually and all of those posts are read and counted as updates, which again, score points for the website in the ranking results for the keyword it is tagged for.

Finally, this brings us to the element of links. There are good links and bad links. The links you DON'T want are links that don't contain RELEVANT CONTENT RELATION to the subject matter of your website, like we've gone over previously in this lesson about keywords. You don't want to link to a clothing site if you are working on a chicken soup recipe site. However, you do want to link to a sitethat sells kitchen accessories, such as stock pots, knives and spoons.

There is a huge misconception that reciprocal linking , ( exchanging a partners or links page link in trade on your site for a link of your site to be placed on the other person's ), is a bad thing. It actually isn't. Just like the myth that keywords don't work. These types of links simply give you one point towards your ranking score, where they would have given you five to ten points for the same link a few years ago.

Backlinks are the best type of links to have, which are links that you have had members/visitors/clients of your site post on their site/blog/forum that drives traffic back to your site via word of mouth credit. These are the highest valued links for points towards you ranking score.

On to the search engines next time, which will tell you how these elements work within them. It isn't like you'd think.

I hope this has helped and been informative for you.
