Description:
U.S. State of South Carolina traditional food - The state grown tea was designated the official Hospitality Beverage of the State by Act No. 31, 1995. South Carolina is the first place in the United States where tea was grown having been planted in the Lowcountry outside of Charleston in 1799 at what is now Middleton Place. Now the direct descendants of those very plants have been restored to their former grandeur at the Charleston Tea Plantation, a lush, subtropical tea farm, nestled on a serene sea island near the historic City of Charleston.
Recipe Ingredients
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 cranberry-flavored tea bags
  • 2 orange-flavored tea bags
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 2 cups cranberry juice cocktail
  • 1 cup unsweetened orange juice
  • Three 3-inch sticks cinnamon
  • orange slices (optional)
Recipe Instructions
Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan.

Add tea bags and remove from heat.

Cover and steep 10 minutes.

Remove and discard tea bags.

Add sugar, stirring until sugar dissolves.

Combine cranberry juice, orange juice, and cinnamon sticks in a medium saucepan.

Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes or until thoroughly heated.

Remove and discard cinnamon sticks.

Stir in tea and pour into individual mugs.

Garnish each serving with an orange slice, if desired.

Serve warm.

Yields: 1-1/2 quarts.
