Description: U.S. State of Indiana traditional food - Indianapolis grocer Gilbert Van Camp discovered his customers enjoyed an old family recipe for pork and beans in tomato sauce. He opened up a canning company and Van Camp's Pork and Beans became an American staple.

Recipe Ingredients

- 8 pounds navy beans
- 1/3 cup salt
- 4 quarts tomato juice
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 large onion, diced
- 1 1/2 pound bacon (diced), or hot dogs (sliced)
- 9 cups white sugar
- 4 cups brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 26 ounces bottle ketchup
- 4 tablespoons cornsstarch

Recipe Instructions
|
Soak beans overnight.
Simmer beans in water until soft.
Mix the rest of the ingredients together and cook for a few minutes.
Then add to the beans and mix well.
Put in jars and seal.
Cold pack 1/2 hr. |
