Tutorial Instructions
if you all haven't figured it out by now, all of the Spy Sweeper Updaters will no longer work. Webroot has changed their update process on their update servers. They are really getting strict about checking serials with each update, they will know if that serial is used on another system or IP address. They are really cracking down and blacklisting these serials soon as they find out.

As a temporary solution, you can install this special version of Spy Sweeper and go HERE register for a free 12 month subscription with Webroot.

Direction on how to install and register.
You do NOT have to Uninstall any previous versions.

1. Install v.5.5.7 (build 48) from the link above.
2. While installing, enter the serial that Webroot sent to your email.
3. If you are prompted, do NOT check for new updates with VersionGuard.
4. Reboot your computer.
5. After rebooting, launch Spy Sweeper if it isn't setup to run on system startup.
6. Check for updates with Spy Sweeper, while updating, it will launch your browser and give you a link to upgrade to the latest version 5.5.7 (build 124)
7. You can decide to upgrade or just use (build 48). If you choose to update, while installing the new version, leave the serial spaces blank and your license will copy over to this new version. Reboot you computer after the upgrade.

Any time you manually update Spy Sweeper, it will launch your browser and check for version upgrades.
There is no way to stop it from doing this. (This is very annoying.)

Do NOT share your serial with anyone, post it to a site or forum, or try to use it on another system.
Webroot will blacklist it very soon if you do.

Correction: On my system, the serial that Webroot sent me would NOT work while installing the current version, but when installing v.5.5.7 (build 48) and rebooting, then I was able to upgrade to v.5.5.7(build 124) and it kept the license and was still fully registered.

Webroot sent the serial to my email is a matter of minutes. The 12 month free trial starts with the install date of the serial. I'm not sure if you can wait to use it or how long this will last before Webroot discontinues it.

I know some of you have made requests for BigScott_27 to make a new Spy Sweeper, right now Mr. BigScott_27 is a very busy man. We all have are daily lives to deal with first before we can do much with this site. Some of us are more busy than others.

I'm sure if BigScott_27 has the spare time and feels that he wants to make another updater, he will consider it.

At the time this site, forums and the updater was created, Webroot Spy Sweeper was the top Anti-Spyware solution. The times have changed and other programs like Sunbelt CounterSpy, AVG Anti-Spyware and a-squared Anti-Malware have surpassed Webroot Spy Sweeper and are now the top Anti-Spyware solutions.

So the options are yours, if you still want to use Spy Sweeper then use the temporary solution, or just use one of our other Anti-Spyware programs. Either way, please give BigScott_27 and very special "Thank You".

Not only is he the man that is responsible for creating the Spy Sweeper Updaters, but we all would not be here now if he had not created such a wonderful security site full of nice programs and information.
