Description:
How to Get RSS Feeds For your Forum
Tutorial Instructions
Let's try this. We're going to use cnn.com as an example, but the procedures are the samefor any site that offers an rss feed.

Go to cnn.com's rss feed page and lets pick out an rss feed for your site:

For this tutorial, lets use the Top Stories.

The RSS Feed is almost always a little orange and white RSS icon, or it may be an orange and white XML button.

Hold your mouse over the orange XML icon and right click, then select properties.

You get this: It's the LINK Properties: http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss

That's your RSS Feed Link.

Now Highlight that rss feed link, right click and copy.

OK - now go to your ACP --> click the Management Tab --> and on the left hand side scroll down and
find --> RSS Management --> and click on RSS Import Manager.

Now we're going to fill in some blocks in this form:

FIRST! Make sure you have created a FORUM that you want your RSS Feeds to go Into!

For example, Make a forum called CNN News or something like that.

And if you want (like I did), create a new user called NewsBot or RSSGuy or something like that.
The new user isn't necessary of course, but I like to keep my rss feed poster seperate :-)

OK, back to the Create an RSS Import form:

Look for:

RSS Import Streams
RSS Title Enabled - hover over the grey options box and you'll see a pull down box - click :

Create New RSS Import Stream..

RSS Import Stream Title : give it a name, like CNN News

RSS Import Stream URL: Click in the white box, right click and paste.
This is the rss feed link you copied earlier : [url=http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss[/url]

RSS Import Stream Character Set: UTF-8

RSS Import Enabled: YES

Does this stream require .htaccess Authentication? Do Not Check this box.

RSS Import Into Forum: Use the pull down box to select the forum you want your feed to post into.

RSS Import Preserve HTML: For security, select NO.

RSS Import Poster's Name: Key in the name of the user you want to show up as the poster.

RSS Import Increment Poster's Post Count: Yes or No, your choice

RSS Import Add Link To Post: Leave this alone

RSS Import Topic Open: Yes

RSS Import Topic Hidden: No

RSS Import Topic Prefix: Leave this blank

RSS Import Settings

RSS Import Per Go: This just means how many articles do you want to pull from CNN.com at a given time.
Mine is set at 10 (you can change it later of course)

RSS Import Refresh: THis is just how often your system will pull new messages/articles from digg.com (in minutes). I have some of my feeds set at 200, others at 720 (every 12 hours), so just pick one - you can change it later.

Finally - click the Create New RSS Import Stream.

Now go back to your forum, and the first articles should already be there!

Have fun!
