The Nikko R2D2 projector is one of the best products ever to come from the Star Wars movies. This device is a home entertainment center on wheels. The projector features 1500 ANSI lumens, XGA (1024 x 768) resolution and an 1800:1 contrast ratio. It comes with an iPod docking station, a built-in DVD/CD player, USB drives, and a variety of input slots for external devices. Recently, the writers at T3 received an R2D2 unit of their very own and they couldn¢t be happier. The R2D2 projector shoots images through its eye, similar to how he projected princess Leia in the movie. The images can as big as 300 inches, diagonally. The RC controls allow you to move R2 and the projection display to anywhere you want. R2D2 can even lean back, allowing him to project onto the ceiling. Another good point mentioned was that all the features and connections where able to be hidden by detachable panels, when not in use. This gave the projector a more realistic look. There were only two major concerns with the R2D2 projector: first being that the projector was not able to display HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The other concern was that the $2499 price tag was too expensive. However, the writers commented to say, “The fact that they¢re a limited edition doesn¢t come as a surprise given that price, with few UK suppliers stocking more than a handful at a time. But for some people, the functionality combined with the geeky prestige will make for a well worthwhile collector¢s item. Put it this way: if journalism were a more lucrative game, our office would be overrun with the blighters.”
