"Crash" tells interlocking stories of whites, blacks, Latinos, Koreans, Iranians, cops and criminals, the rich and the poor, the powerful and powerless, all defined in one way or another by racism. All are victims of it, and all are guilty it. Sometimes, yes, they rise above it, although it is never that simple. Their negative impulses may be instinctive, their positive impulses may be dangerous, and who knows what the other person is thinking?

The result is a movie of intense fascination; we understand quickly enough who the characters are and what their lives are like, but we have no idea how they will behave, because so much depends on accident. Most movies enact rituals; we know the form and watch for variations. "Crash" is a movie with free will, and anything can happen. Because we care about the characters, the movie is uncanny in its ability to rope us in and get us involved.

"Crash" was directed by Paul Haggis, whose screenplay for "Million Dollar Baby" led to Academy Awards. It connects stories based on coincidence, serendipity, and luck, as the lives of the characters crash against one another other like pinballs. The movie presumes that most people feel prejudice and resentment against members of other groups, and observes the consequences of those feelings.

Not many films have the possibility of making their audiences better people. I don't expect "Crash" to work any miracles, but I believe anyone seeing it is likely to be moved to have a little more sympathy for people not like themselves. The movie contains hurt, coldness and cruelty, but is it without hope? Not at all. Stand back and consider. All of these people, superficially so different, share the city and learn that they share similar fears and hopes. Until several hundred years ago, most people everywhere on earth never saw anybody who didn't look like them. They were not racist because, as far as they knew, there was only one race. You may have to look hard to see it, but "Crash" is a film about progress.

This movie was incredible, I can't quit thinking about it. I haven't seen a movie to equal this in years. default.biggrin.gif

Yep, I think you are right. Although there are car crashes in this movie, this one deals with peoples lives crashing into each other a bit more. I hope you enjoy it, I think you will.

I found it deeply boring and kinda "wrong", in a way that i cannot define but sent chills down my spine. It touched sensitive subjects, but it was so light in dealing with them and so "politically correct" that made me nauseous.

Nick it was here, about 2-3 months ago. You missed it, sorry. Go grab it in video now or in a few weeks.

I will disagree with Sab , I didn't found it boring, it really touches sensitive subjects ,but also (and here i agree with Sab) it dealed with them very lightly and not to cause any arguments...
I think that this kind of films should make more "noice" but Hollywood could not allow the film to be the aim of negative comments...

I don't understand what you both mean by "nice" & "politically correct". Hollywood has tons of films that deal with the issues in this movie, and none of them are "nice" or "politically correct". IE: American History X, Apt Pupil, etc ... I have never seen where these issues were dealt with in this way, it teaches lessons, it shows how everyone is touched, much like a ripple effect. I see nothing "nice or politically correct" in this movie. I see real possibilites, real situations, the causes and reasons of why's, and the miserable acceptance that has been incorporated into lives. Please explain, I need to know what I am missing.

Loved the movie. All kinds of upsetting. The trippy part about it, is how accurate it actually is. People really do...do that. I myself have behaved in some of those ways without even realizing it. People are people regardless of age, race, sex, etc. We are all the same, that *in my opinion* is the beauty of the movie. We never know what is going on below the surface...right or wrong...Loved it, and I'm rooting for it, at the Academy Awards default.tongue.gif

Yes. It was probably the worst movie ever shot by a human being or an animal. And it was directed by Kronenberg, a director of pure genious. I guess all famous directors have a slip up sometime along the line, just like Verhoven's Showgirls, an ubealivable piece of sh*t.

About this new Crash, I haven't seen the movie, but few people that have watched it and in whose taste I trust, told me that it's too deluted.

I just don't get where you guys are getting deluted and nice... Do you understand what is happening in the film? The movie is about emotions, what could be more intense than that?

You think you know who you are. You have no idea

very strong movie. Got me hooked for more than 2 hours and i am still thinking about the message given in a delicate way, a set of coincidences that simply show us how deeply we need each other, how much we hate and love each other, how wrongly we are raised and how tragically we open our eyes one day to see the world as is, a world of racism, stereotypes and waste.

Best Picture on Oscars 2006 : won 3 of them, plus many other awards, check here

Several stories interweave during two days in Los Angeles involving a collection of inter-related characters, a black police detective with a drugged out mother and a thieving younger brother, two car thieves who are constantly theorizing on society and race, the distracted district attorney and his irritated and pampered wife, a racist veteran cop (caring for a sick father at home) who disgusts his more idealistic younger partner, a successful black Hollywood director and his wife who must deal with racist cop, a Persian-immigrant father who buys a gun to protect his shop, a Hispanic locksmith and his young daughter who is afraid of bullets, and more.
