 [/title]Nikola Tesla was an American inventor. Differing figures have been cited for the total number of patents obtained by this creative individual for his inventions worldwide. Based upon data found in PATENTI NIKOLE TESLE [1], the CATALOGUE OF TESLA PATENTS, Belgrade, 1987, DR. NIKOLA TESLA — COMPLETE PATENTS, NIKOLA TESLA — COMPLETE PATENT COLLECTION, and NIKOLA TESLA — COLLECTED GERMAN AND AMERICAN PATENTS there were at least 272 patents issued to Tesla in 25 countries over the course of his lifetime. The figures of 700 patents, 900 patents, and 1,200 patents [2] worldwide appear to be grossly inflated. Many of Tesla's patents were in the United States, Britain, and Canada, but a number of patents were also granted in other countries around the globe. Some inventions developed by Tesla were not put into patent protection (Cheney, 62 (?)). Speculation that some of Tesla's patents are not accounted for, and that various sources have discovered some that are hidden in patent archives are, as yet, unsubstantiated.
